Akira (1988) | Japan | Japanese animation
The movie Akira was the first animation film to be released in movie theaters in many countries, including France. Cutting many aspects of the original 6-volume manga, it nevertheless changed the Occident's perception of the japanimation phenomenon.
In 2019's Neo-Tokyo, more than 30 years after World War III, Kaneda and his gang engage their bikes on abandoned highways, until the day where one of them, Tetsuo, gets injured by a mysterious human just escaped from a governmental scientific program. While the accident grows tremendous psychic powers in Tetsuo's body, similar to those of Akira, the one who started the last World War and reduced the city to ashes, Kaneda will meet Kei, a member of a revolutionary force that will help him in fighting against the possibility that Tetsuo's powers might awaken the cryogenized boy Akira.
